In a world that often feels unsafe for marginalized peoples, Fleurish offers members of the LGBTQIA+ community a place to safely process what's going on in your life. Whether you are coming in with issues specific to your sexual orientation or gender identity or just life stuff in general, Fleurish Psychotherapy offers LGBTQ+ affirming therapy that helps you feel accepted, affirmed, and embraced.
Why do members of the LGBTQ+ community seek counseling?
Members of the LGBTQ+ community typically come to see us for the same reasons that anyone else might have for seeking counseling – life is complicated, challenging, and stressful. From mood disorders like depression and anxiety to grief and loss, or dealing with difficult life transitions, there are many reasons to consider therapy so that you can start living a more joyful and fulfilling life.
In addition to these common reasons for seeking counseling, research shows that members of the LGBTQ+ community experience higher stress levels and are more likely to struggle with substance abuse than other individuals. This may be partially due to a lack of affirming culture as a whole, as well as implicit and explicit biases directed at LGBTQ+ people. Whatever your reason for seeking counseling, our therapists are here to help.
Are you curious about working with an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist?
The LGBTQ+ community has a difficult history with therapy. In the past, some therapists categorized different sexual orientations and gender identities as disorders, and they were treated as such. While we know better now, having an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist who understands your struggles can still be helpful.
It’s important to work with a counselor who supports and advocates for all aspects of who you are, so you can learn to love and embrace who you are inside and out. Fleurish's experienced counselors welcome LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families. If you're looking for someone who speaks to LGBTQ+ struggles like they speak to human struggles, let's chat.
What Happens During Therapy?
LGBTQ+ affirming therapy can incorporate a whole range of counseling methods and modalities. Maybe you know about CBT, ACT, and DBT—or maybe not. Either way, we are happy to talk to you about whatever counseling methods might work best for you—so you can focus on what matters most: finding the right kind of therapy for you.
During your first appointment, your therapist will offer a safe place to talk about who you are. Together, you’ll work to create a plan that's customized just for you; if indicated, we'll also recommend LGBTQ+ affirming couples or family therapy. There will always be a different therapist working with couples or families, so no one feels like their counselor is playing favorites.
Our therapists want you to have great therapy sessions with us. They're interested in making sure you have new coping skills so you'll have more success as you leave our office.
Come as you are.
